This is how I canceled my timeshare legally!

Vacations are where timeshare sales reps catch you. The good mood, the afternoon beers, a full tummy – it’s no wonder that a timeshare looks like the best piece of investment ever! So, I signed up and when I got back home - the reality of the monthly payments sank in, and I started panicking.
Some frantic googling showed that I am not alone and there are several things one can do to cancel timeshare ownership.

This is how I canceled my timeshare ownership

Step one, I immediately hired a timeshare cancellation company with lawyers!
The cooling-off period was tiny and was over before my holiday, so I couldn’t just hand in a cancellation letter (yes, that’s an option, but this is usually around 5-7 days depending on your state laws). I decided on a two-pronged approach – I immediately listed my timeshare on various vacation rental sites (this would help pay the bills) and hired an experienced timeshare liquidation company.
The lawyers at the firm were fantastic! With their advice, I approached the resort and opened negotiations. With legal representative handling the process, I was lucky enough to settle and cancel my timeshare legally; I feel having a lawyer made it clear to the owners that I was very serious about terminating my timeshare and would be willing to go to court.

I would recommend this approach to all, even if the negotiations fail and you have to get into a long drawn out legal proceedings you will need experienced timeshare experts. A liquidation company can help in other ways too – while you are pursuing legal means they can use their substantial resources and connections to sell, transfer or rent your timeshare within their network.

My experience is that timeshares are a fantastic way to vacation as a family, but they are legally binding; so, you need to be sure about your finances before you sign anything. The Internet is full of negative stories about timeshares that make it seem that you will be stuck with huge bills forever – this is not true! You can always make money by renting your timeshare and as my experience showed its entirely possible to get out of them!
